What happens at the Initial Appointment?

On arrival, you will be asked to complete a consent and screening form, this is to understand your basic details, past medical history, investigations and any medication you are taking. We would urge you to provide as much information as you can, this can help in formulating the right treatment for you. Please also state any short term or long term goals you would like to achieve, so that we can tailor the treatment accordingly. We would appreciate if you can bring a copy of your prescription or even a list of medication you are taking.

Once we have gathered enough background information, your physiotherapist will then undertake a series of clinical tests to formulate a diagnosis. We will get your consent and talk you through during assessment so that you know what we are trying to do. You will be given a detailed explanation of the underlying issue(s) and treatment options you may want to consider. There will be plenty of oppurtunity to ask any questions, hopefully you won't have many questions after the discussion.   

Patient safety is our ultimate priority, we will inform you if you would benefit from any investigations or further tests. We will always provide you written information if we ask you to speak to your GP or any other clinician for your care. We want the communciation process to be seamless and transparent, you do not need to worry about communicating medical jargons, let us all do all the work by giving you a detailed letter.

Depending on the nature of the symptoms, on the intial 45 minute appointment, you will also get a short hands on treatment session and this will be followed up by advice and exercises to speed up your recovery. 

Finally, in line with our core values, we will never try to encourage or persuade you to return for treatment if it is not needed, we will give our honest advice in terms of treatment options and recommendations. What happens at the Follow-up Appointment? 

The 30 minute follow-up appointment will start with a brief overview of your symptoms and straight to hands on treatments and supervised exercises. Once again, we will tell you in advance roughly how many follow up appointments you may need, obviously, this can vary depending on the condition.
